INNER LOOP                                                                                           - Houston
Construction of the 610 Loop began in the late 1950s and continued into the early 1960s. The “Loop” was built to bypass Downtown and the Ship Channel for commuters driving to then-developing suburban areas such as Tanglewood, Meyerland, and the City of Bellaire, and the area today encompasses four major business districts. When a Houstonian says “Inside the Loop,” they refer to neighborhoods encircled by the highway as well as those adjacent to it. Our interactive map of the 610 Loop includes adjacent areas such as the Galleria and Uptown Park, Oak Forest and Garden in the northwest, and sections of Bellaire and Meyerland, also associated with the Greater Medical Center Area. The vibrant, urban core of Houston resides inside the Loop; access to the arts, museums and premier shopping and dining is within 20 minutes from any inner-Loop location. High density has escalated land prices but the inner-Loop continues to offer a wide array of housing choices at almost every price point thanks to no zoning. Choices range from condominiums priced well under $100,000 to some of the city’s most expensive estates.
